BNBC 2020 Occupancy Compatibility Checker

Preliminary mixed, separated, and detached occupancy screening
Prepared by Engr. Mohammad Ismail Hossain, MIEB-42283 | CEO, Ascending Consulting Engineers
This tool is a preliminary BNBC 2020 screening aid. It does not replace a complete fire-safety design, licensed professional judgment, official code verification, or approval by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Actual compliance depends on exact occupancy classification, stored materials, quantity and arrangement of stored goods, building height, area, construction type, egress, fire alarm, suppression systems, fire-service access, shafts, openings, and all applicable BNBC provisions.

Building layout

Only consecutive floor-to-floor interfaces are assessed. Non-adjoining floors separated by a complete intervening compartment are not compared.

Add compartments, then tick which other compartments each one shares a direct common boundary with. Only checked boundaries are assessed.

How this checker works

  • Fire Index: occupancies with the same Fire Index may be eligible for mixed occupancy; different Fire Indices require separated or detached treatment.
  • Separated occupancy: actual direct boundaries use Table 3.2.1 fire-rated barrier walls or floor/ceiling assemblies.
  • NP: means "Not Permitted" for that direct occupancy interface only — it is not applied to remote occupancies separated by complete intervening fire compartments.
  • Not checked here: full official Table 3.2.1 verification, detailed classification, egress, alarm/suppression, travel distance, height, area, exterior walls, fire-service access, and all other BNBC requirements.

Numeric Potentially permissible   NP Not permitted   Unloaded More information required
